For over 100 years, Hockey Canada has been the national governing body for grass root ice and ice sledge hockey in Canada. It is Canada’s voice within the International Ice Hockey Federation. The body oversees the management of programs in Canada from entry-level to high performance teams and competitions, including world championships and the Olympic Winter Games. The federation is driven to building a better game and community for Canadians.
As tournaments and sporting events ramped back up, Hockey Canada was looking for ways to ensure health and safety of athletes, staff, volunteers, and fans during nation’s much-loved sporting event.
Hockey Canada decided to place their trust in TraceSafe’s SafeBand, a sleek wearable powered by BLE, for contact tracing and quarantine alerts. With the ideal combination of privacy and safety, the solution was handed over to hundreds of players, staff members and admins to ensure an uncompromized layer of safety before and during the critical event days. TraceSafe’s past experience of working with leading organizations and governments, gave them the edge of effective implementation in a matter of weeks. This includes consultation, planning, testing, training, and hardware installation.
Hockey Canada was able to trace and record thousands of contacts and cases early on, limiting the spread of virus, especially among the players and key staff members. With technology taking care of the tracing, the management teams were able to focus on other important aspects of the tournament. Hockey Canada was so impressed with the measurable impact on event and player safety, they extended the partnership with TraceSafe, twice in a row.
